Start with the slab, not the shine level
Polished concrete is produced by mechanically grinding and refining a concrete surface. The result depends heavily on the slab that is available. A purpose-planned new slab allows decisions about mix, placement, aggregate and protection during construction. An existing slab can reveal repairs, stains, cracks and uneven aggregate once grinding begins.
Four items to put in the quote
Aggregate exposure
Salt-and-pepper, partial and fuller exposure require different grinding depth and can uncover different visual variation.
Sheen and system
Clarify whether the proposed result is a mechanically polished system or a grind-and-seal finish. They are not interchangeable labels.
Edges and penetrations
Walls, cabinetry, columns, stairs and service penetrations affect machine access and hand-work allowances.
Albury currently carries the only separately measured local demand for this service in the research set, but providers may work across the wider border region. Wodonga enquiries should still be scoped by actual travel, slab condition and project timing rather than assuming availability.
Cracks and variation are part of the assessment
Grinding does not erase structural movement. Existing cracks may remain visible or need a nominated repair approach, and repairs can contrast with the surrounding floor. Ask what appearance is reasonably achievable before treating a showroom image as a promise.

Resurfacing or mechanically polishing an existing home floor?
Name the requested system before comparing a floor quotation. A resurfacing or coating proposal, a mechanically polished indoor slab and a honed exterior surface describe different treatments. Ask the provider to state the process, the existing-slab preparation and the final surface system in writing.
The CCAA honing and polishing guide explains terminology and sample panels. It is dated August 2010; use it for that background, not as a statement of current standards. A sample helps agree appearance, while the existing slab still needs assessment.
A border renovation needs a scope and contract check
Identify Albury or Wodonga and whether the floor treatment is standalone or included in a broader home renovation. NSW general concreting guidance and the Victorian domestic-building contract test cannot automatically be applied to every polishing treatment. For eligible Victorian building packages, check the contract-date insurance pathway.

Questions about this concrete work
Does resurfacing mean the same thing as polished concrete?
Ask the provider to name the process and final system. Different services can be described with these terms; a photograph alone cannot define the quote.
Can the sample predict the entire existing floor?
A sample documents the selected appearance; the provider still needs to assess the existing slab and explain variations before acceptance.
Why does an indoor floor enquiry ask Albury or Wodonga?
The state and contracted renovation scope determine which authority and contract checks apply. A border-wide referral page does not replace those checks.
